Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson’s office is denying the White House threatened the Senator with the closure of Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha unless he supports government-run health care. This was a predictable as the sun coming up in the morning.
The plot thickens however, as the other Nebraska Senator, Mike Johanns is calling for an investigation into the alleged threat. I knew Johanns when he was the Mayor of Lincoln and he is a straight shooter, but unfortunately, unless Rahm Emanuel is shot up with sodium-pentothal, we’ll never know for sure.
What you have to do with this kind of story is look at the character of all the parties involved and decide what’s believable and what is not believable. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration has not given me any cause to give them the benefit of the doubt. Am I biased? Sure, but not to the point that I’ve abandoned logical reasoning. Obama and the Democrats want government-run health care at all costs, even if it means losing Congress temporarily. If they can set the wheels of government-dependence in motion, it will only be a matter of time before they return to power and that’s what this is all about. Any bad PR over using strong-arm tactics with a squishy Democrat Senator are a small price to pay in the their grand scheme.
Bottom line, a majority of the American people don’t want this, but the Democrats are determined to do it anyway.
